Current developments in the world: The common challenges and opportunities for the EU and Mexico

14. - 20.06.2026

Bringing together students from TEC de Monterrey in Mexico, HTW Saar, and the University of Würzburg, the seminar became much more than a series of lectures—it was a week of lively discussions, new perspectives, and genuine international exchange. Whether debating the future of the European Union, exploring global challenges, or simply continuing conversations over coffee, participants discovered how different cultural backgrounds can enrich the way we think about politics, society, and our shared future.

One of the highlights was the hands-on simulation on Right to Water, where students stepped into the roles of different European stakeholders and experienced just how challenging democratic decision-making can be. Human rights, European values, and the growing influence of artificial intelligence sparked passionate debates throughout the week. From discussing ethical AI and digital regulation to imagining how AI could help solve real-world problems, participants combined critical thinking with creativity and developed ideas that looked far beyond today's challenges.

The seminar also took learning beyond the classroom. During excursions to Luxembourg and Strasbourg, participants visited the European Investment Bank, the European Court of Auditors, the Council of Europe, and the European Court of Human Rights. Meeting experts, asking countless questions, and seeing European institutions in action gave students first-hand insights into how international cooperation, democracy, and human rights work in practice. These shared experiences not only deepened their understanding of Europe but also strengthened friendships and international connections that will continue long after the seminar has ended.
