Europe 3.0 - Between Integration, Globalisation and Nationalism

Is it time for a change? In the year before the next European election, the member states are tackling rising nationalism and populism. At the same time, they have to establish the European Union as a strong, forward-looking unit. “Europe 3.0 – Between Integration, Globalisation and Nationalism” deals with a broad range of important political and economic developments of today’s European Union as well as with human rights protection in Europe in times of increasing digitalisation. Explore with us the European capitals and experience the inspiring atmosphere of an international seminar.

This year's summer course will deal with
•    Current situation and main challenges of the EU after years of crisis
•    EU institutional set-up and decision-making
•    Separatism and regionalism in Europe – What does international law says about this
•    The EU between enlargement and Brexit
•    Human rights protection in Europe in a digital age
•    The EU as a crisis manager
•    Fake news, populism, extremism
•    Rise of right wing parties in Europe
•    The EU as a trade power
•    The EU single market – the four freedoms
•    Scenarios on EU’s future development

You will meet renowned international experts in European law, politics and economics. The lecturers not only work in academia but also come from practice and will give you a valuable insight into the European Union.

Participation Fee & Service:
The participation fee is 950 Euro. This includes the program fee, field trips (to Brussels, Strasbourg, Saarbrücken), full board (all meals) and lodging at the European Academy of Otzenhausen. It does not cover travel expenses to / from Otzenhausen.

There is the possibility to apply for a scholarship that covers half of the seminar costs and grants a travel subsidy under certain circumstances.
