About the project

"Sustainable development" is the most recent department of the European Academy of Otzenhausen – even though this theme has long been an important key issue of the educational programmes of the other EAO departments. Since sustainable development is a cross-sectoral issue, it concerns almost all fields of daily life.

The creation of an own department with focus on sustainable development aims to maintain the theme as a cross-sectoral issue in the future and, what is more, to increase public awareness of sustainable development thanks to new events adding to the existing programmes.

Our objective is to show the complex relationships of the Earth's system, promote awareness of the importance and urgency of sustainability and strengthen decision-making competences and the competences to act.

Our target groups are both secondary and university students as well as anyone who has the potential to shape a more sustainable future.

Project "Encouraging Sustainability"

"Encouraging Sustainability" is an educational initiative implemented throughout Germany, which aims to persuade people to treat the Earth in a responsible way. Education is the key to success here, and our motto is therefore "Acting from insight and responsibility".
The educational initiative is jointly supported by Stiftung Forum für Verantwortung and ASKO EUROPA-STIFTUNG foundations and by the European Academy of Otzenhausen.

The Umwelt-Campus Birkenfeld is an important partner from the university level. Our longstanding partnership is deepened thanks to the support of the master's course "Sustainable Change", which started in the 2016 summer semester.
